Indo Coral Conservation’s Marine Conservation Internship is a structured, field-based program designed for certified scuba divers who want to deepen their understanding of reef ecosystems and contribute to restoration and monitoring efforts.
The internship runs over four weeks and is divided into four modules, each focusing on a key aspect of marine conservation in the Gili Islands region.
Internship Modules
Each module includes a mix of underwater activities, short workshops, and guided fieldwork. Interns will work alongside Indo Coral’s team and follow established safety and restoration protocols.
2 weeks : Coral Restoration
- Coral fragmentation and nursery maintenance
- Outplanting techniques using reef-safe adhesives
- Basic reef monitoring and data collection
- Introduction to coral biology and restoration principles

1 week : Sea turtles & invertebrates
- Sea turtle ecology and identification
- Threats and conservation strategies
- Survey methods for key invertebrate species

1 week : Reef Fish Ecology
- Fish identification and behavior
- Functional roles of reef fish in coral ecosystems
- Survey techniques and underwater data recording

Availability & Enrollment
- Start Date: January 2026
- Duration: 4 weeks (full program). Modules are available separately if you do not wish to enroll in the full internship — you can choose one or more based on your interests and availability.
- Prerequisites: SSI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent), 15 logged dive and must have dive within 12 month (if you need a scuba skill update course or more dives, visit the website of our partner 3W Dive Center).

Optional Add-On: Divemaster Training

This internship can be taken independently or combined with the Divemaster Internship offered by 3W Dive Gili Air. Interns who choose the combined pathway will participate in restoration dives and ecological modules alongside their professional dive training.
